Our First Meeting Discussion: Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Game

Our meeting will be on Tuesday, October 15th, in Robert Room 412 at 1:30 P.M.

Overall we want to consider the push and pull of individual morality and systems of power. Some of the questions we will be using to guide our discussion will be:
  1. Who are the players and what is the game

    • E.G. citizens v. government bodies, consumers v. corporations,

  2. Why are we so inclined to hate the player in the first place?

    • E.G. Individualist values intertwined in the system, False senses of equality and freedom

  3. What is the system(s) we live in?

    • E.G. Capitalism, post-industrialization, post-truth, post-modern, hyper-consumerism, etc.

  4. What are some consequences of these systems?

    • E.G. Oppression, ecological destruction, epistemic uncertainty, alienation, individualism, mass entertainment/distraction

  5. What can we do to change the game?

    • E.G. Reform in law, tax codes, legal rulings, Safety standards
